Install / Upgrade Linux Kernel 3.15.1 in Ubuntu / LinuxMint

In this Tutorial I will show you how to Install the Latest version of Kernel 3.15.1 On Ubuntu 14.04LTS / 13.10 / 12.04LTS/ LinuxMint / Debian systems.

The Latest stable version of Kernel is 3.15.1 and it released on 17th June 2014

Installation steps

Step 1: Download the deb files directly using wget ,copy the below commands and paste it in terminal one by one according to your cpu architecture.Alternate way to download the deb files is Direct Method.

For 32 bit systems

wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15.1-utopic/linux-headers-3.15.1-031501_3.15.1-031501.201406161841_all.deb

wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15.1-utopic/linux-headers-3.15.1-031501-generic_3.15.1-031501.201406161841_i386.deb

wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15.1-utopic/linux-image-3.15.1-031501-generic_3.15.1-031501.201406161841_i386.deb

For 64 bit systems

wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15.1-utopic/linux-headers-3.15.1-031501_3.15.1-031501.201406161841_all.deb

wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15.1-utopic/linux-headers-3.15.1-031501-generic_3.15.1-031501.201406161841_amd64.deb

wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15.1-utopic/linux-image-3.15.1-031501-generic_3.15.1-031501.201406161841_amd64.deb

Step 2: After successfull downloading  install it
sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-3.15.1* linux-image-3.15.1* .deb
Step 3:Verify installed Version

After successfull installation reboot the system,Your new kernel will be installed and set as default and for checking type uname -r in the terminal

Removing  Kernel 3.15.1

For removing the Kernel 3.15.1 run the below command in terminal or use synaptic package manager


sudo apt-get remove linux-headers-3.15.1* linux-image-3.15.1*
