The Latest stable version of Kernel is 3.15.5 and it released on 9th July 2014
Installation steps
Step 1: Download the deb files directly using wget ,copy the below commands and paste it in terminal one by one according to your cpu architecture
For 32 bit systems
wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15.5-utopic/linux-headers-3.15.5-031505_3.15.5-031505.201407091543_all.deb
wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15.5-utopic/linux-headers-3.15.5-031505-generic_3.15.5-031505.201407091543_i386.deb
wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15.5-utopic/linux-image-3.15.5-031505-generic_3.15.5-031505.201407091543_i386.debFor 64 bit systems
wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15.5-utopic/linux-headers-3.15.5-031505_3.15.5-031505.201407091543_all.deb
wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15.5-utopic/linux-headers-3.15.5-031505-generic_3.15.5-031505.201407091543_amd64.deb
wget -c kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.15.5-utopic/linux-image-3.15.5-031505-generic_3.15.5-031505.201407091543_amd64.debStep 2: After successfull downloading install it
sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-3.15.5* linux-image-3.15.5* .debStep 3:Verify installed Version
After successfull installation reboot the system,Your new kernel will be installed and set as default,For verfication type in terminal uname -r
Removing Kernel 3.15.5
For removing the Kernel 3.15.5 run the below command in terminal or use synaptic package manager
sudo apt-get remove linux-headers-3.15.5* linux-image-3.15.5*
