Install / Upgrade to Linux Kernel 4.7 On Ubuntu / LinuxMint / Debian

In this Tutorial I will show you how to Install the Latest version of Kernel 4.7 On Ubuntu 14.04 LTS / 15.10 , LinuxMint / Debian systems.

The Latest stable version of Kernel is 4.7 and it released on 24th July 2016

Note : Don't install this kernel on any production machines without testing and am not responsible for any disaster


Installation steps

The below commands will work on debian based systems.

Step 1: Download the deb files directly using wget ,copy the below commands and paste it in terminal one by one according to your cpu architecture


For 32 bit systems

wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7/linux-headers-4.7.0-040700_4.7.0-040700.201607241632_all.deb
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7/linux-headers-4.7.0-040700-generic_4.7.0-040700.201607241632_i386.deb
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7/linux-image-4.7.0-040700-generic_4.7.0-040700.201607241632_i386.deb

For 64 bit systems

wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7/linux-headers-4.7.0-040700_4.7.0-040700.201607241632_all.deb
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7/linux-headers-4.7.0-040700-generic_4.7.0-040700.201607241632_amd64.deb
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7/linux-image-4.7.0-040700-generic_4.7.0-040700.201607241632_amd64.deb
Step 2: After successful downloading install it
sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-4.7.0* linux-image-4.7.0*
Step 3:Verify installed Version

After reboot,your new kernel will be installed and  default,for checking use uname command
uname -r
 


Removing Kernel 4.7


For removing the Kernel 4.7 run the below command in terminal or use synaptic package manager
sudo apt-get remove linux-headers-4.7-* linux-image-4.7-*
