Install HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) 3.16.8 in Ubuntu / LinuxMint

In this tutorial i will show you how to install the latest version of HPLIP 3.16.8 On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS / 14.04 , LinuxMint 18 .

HPLIP stands for HP Linux Imaging and Printing,which is developed by HP for using HP Printer in Linux Platforms,Hpby using this software anyone can take Printout,scanning and copier using HP Laserjet and HP Inkjet Printers

HPLIP supports more than 2000 Printer models including all bussiness model, inkjet, laser and etc.. , you can also chek the list of supported devices in here

The Latest Version of HPLIP is 3.16.8 released recently and comes with the following fixes and changes and Latest Linux distribution LinuxMint, Debian 8.5 support they have added


Added support for the following new modelPrinters:

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 All-in-One Printer
  • HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 All-in-One Printer
  • HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile All-in-One
  • HP DeskJet 3700 All-in-One
  • HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 3700 All-in-One

Added support for the new Distro's:

  • LinuxMint 18
  • Fedora 24
  • Debian 8.5


  • Modified the GUI representation of Secure PIN Printing

Installation steps

Step 1: Download the installer file

Download installer file from the Sourceforge website or use the below command
Step 2: Change the name of the downloaded file to and give Execute Permissions to the Installer
sudo chmod -R 755
Step 3: Install HPLIP 3.16.8
sudo ./
Once Installation process started it'll install all those dependencies and drivers you need to Press yes or no according to your needs.
