Install HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) 3.16.10 in Ubuntu / LinuxMint /Debian

In this tutorial i will show you how to install the latest version of HPLIP 3.16.10 On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS / 16.10 , LinuxMint 18 and Debian .

HPLIP stands for HP Linux Imaging and Printing,which is developed by HP for using HP Printer in Linux Platforms,Hpby using this software anyone can take Printout,scanning and copier using HP Laserjet and HP Inkjet Printers

HPLIP supports more than 2000 Printer models including all bussiness model, inkjet, laser and etc.. , you can also chek the list of supported devices in here

The Latest Version of HPLIP is 3.16.10 released recently and comes with the following fixes and changes and Latest Linux distribution Ubuntu 16.10 , Debian 8.5 support they have added


Added support for the following new modelPrinters:

  • HP officejetPro7740 wide Format All in one
  • HP Office jet 6950 All-in-One printer
  • HP ScanJet Pro 3000 s3 Sheet-feed Scanner
  • HP ScanJet Enterprise Flow 5000 s4 Sheet-feed Scanner
  • HP Scanjet Entrprise Flow 7000 s3 sheetfeed Scanner
  • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277c6

Added support for the new Distro's:

  • UBUNTU 16.10 
  • Debian 8.6

Notes to follow:

  • For scanjets scan using command "hp-scan --adf --size=size_name"
  • "hp-scan --help" for all size_nameInstallation steps.

Installation steps

Step 1: Download the installer file

Download installer file from the Sourceforge website or use the below command

Step 2: Change the name of the downloaded file to and give Execute Permissions to the Installer
chmod -R 755
Step 3: Install HPLIP 3.16.10
Once Installation process started it'll install all those dependencies and drivers you need to Press yes or no according to your needs.
