In this Tutorial I will show you how to install Firefox 53.0 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS /14.04 LTS,LinuxMint 18 / 17,Fedora 25,CentOS 6.X / 7.x 


Firefox a most commonly used browsers by everyone and one of the standard browsers too.It is an opensource browser and it is developed by mozilla corporation and mozilla Foundation and available for multiple Operating systems (ie) Windows,Linux,Mac OSX, 
and it comes with its private mode and powerful plugins

Firefox Released its new stable Version 53.0 on April 19th 2017

Changelog in Firefox 53.0

New:
  • Improved graphics stability for Windows users with the addition of compositor process separation (Quantum Compositor)
  • Two new 'compact' themes available in Firefox, dark and light, based on the Firefox Developer Edition theme
  • Lightweight themes are now applied in private browsing windows
  • Reader Mode now displays estimated reading time for the page
  • Windows 7+ users on 64-bit OS can select 32-bit or 64-bit versions in the stub installer
Changes:
  • Updated the design of site permission requests to make them harder to miss and easier to understand
  • Windows XP and Vista are no longer supported. XP and Vista users running Firefox 52 will continue to receive security updates on Firefox ESR 52.
  • 32-bit Mac OS X is no longer supported. 32-bit Mac OS X users can switch to Firefox ESR 52 to continue receiving security updates.
  • Updates for Mac OS X are smaller in size compared to updates for Firefox 52
  • Media playback on new tabs is blocked until the tab is visible
  • Ended Firefox Linux support for processors older than Pentium 4 and AMD Opteron
  • New visual design for audio and video controls
  • The last few characters of shortened tab titles fade out instead of being replaced by ellipses to keep more of the title visible

Installation Steps

Method 1 (For Debian based systems) Via PPA

Best and easy way is to upgrade firefox by updating the Repository, it will automatically upgraded to new version if the ppa is updated
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
Method 2 : Via tar file -- applicable for all distributions

Step 1:Download the latest version of Firefox 53 from their FTP link using wget

For 32 bit systems

wget https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/53.0/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-53.0.tar.bz2
For 64 bit systems
wget https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/53.0/linux-x86_64/en-US/firefox-53.0.tar.bz2
Step 2: Extract the tar package
tar -xjf firefox-53.0.tar.bz2
Step 3: Move the Firefox folder to opt

Remove the Older version of firefox if it's there
sudo rm -rf /opt/firefox52
sudo mv firefox /opt/firefox53
Step 4: Create Symbolic link for New Firefox as default
sudo mv /usr/bin/firefox  /usr/bin/firefoxold
sudo ln -s /opt/firefox53/firefox /usr/bin/firefox
