Install Wine 2.0.1 Stable on Ubuntu 16.04 / LinuxMint Via PPA

In this Tutorial I will show you how to install the Latest stable version of Wine 2.0.1 On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and LinuxMint


WineHQ is an open source software developed for running Windows applications on LINUX,OS X and BSD.The latest stable version available from Wine Team is 2.0.1 and released on April 21th 2016

New in this version 2.0.1


  • Various bug fixes.
  • Deprecated tools/wineinstall

The below distro's are not supported
  • Ubuntu precise
  • Fedora 23
  • Magie 4
New distro added for support
  • Fedora 25

Installation steps


From this version onwards launchpad is no longer used by wine for builds and you can install it using the below method

Step 1: Download the key and add to your pc
wget https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/Release.key
sudo apt-key add Release.key
Step 2 : Add the wine repository
sudo apt-add-repository 'https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/'
Step 3: Update your repos
sudo apt-get update
Step 4 : Install wine 2.0.1
sudo apt-get install winehq-stable
