Install / Upgrade to Linux Kernel 4.11.7 On Ubuntu / LinuxMint

A new updated version has been released for the 4.11 series and it is 7th in this series.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to Install the Latest version of Kernel 4.11.7 On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and LinuxMint.

The Latest stable version of Kernel is 4.11.7 and it released on 24th June 2017

Note: This tutorial is not suitable to install the kernel on production machines and this doesn't include any drivers or patches

Installation steps

The below commands will work on Debian-based systems.

Step 1: Download the deb files directly using wget , copy the below commands and paste it in terminal one by one according to your CPU architecture

wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11.7/linux-headers-4.11.7-041107_4.11.7-041107.201706240231_all.deb
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11.7/linux-headers-4.11.7-041107-generic_4.11.7-041107.201706240231_i386.deb
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11.7/linux-image-4.11.7-041107-generic_4.11.7-041107.201706240231_i386.deb
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11.7/linux-headers-4.11.7-041107_4.11.7-041107.201706240231_all.deb
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11.7/linux-headers-4.11.7-041107-generic_4.11.7-041107.201706240231_amd64.deb 
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11.7/linux-image-4.11.7-041107-generic_4.11.7-041107.201706240231_amd64.deb

Step 2: After successful downloading install it
sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-4.11.7* linux-image-4.11.7*
Step 3: Verify installed Version

After reboot, your new kernel will be installed and default, for checking use uname command
uname -r

Removing Kernel 4.11.7

For removing the Kernel 4.11.7 run the below command in terminal.
sudo apt-get remove linux-headers-4.11.7-* linux-image-4.11.7-*
