How to Install Linux Kernel 4.15.9 On Ubuntu / LinuxMint

4.15 series Kernel got another update and released globally for everyone use.

In this Tutorial, I will show you how to Install the Latest version of Kernel 4.15.9 On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS / 17.10 and LinuxMint.

The Latest stable version of Kernel is 4.15.9 and it released on March 11th.


Installation steps

The below commands will work only on Debian based systems.

Step 1: Download the deb files directly using wget, copy the below commands and paste it into terminal one by one according to your CPU architecture

For 64 bit systems

wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.15.9/linux-headers-4.15.9-041509_4.15.9-041509.201803111231_all.deb
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.15.9/linux-headers-4.15.9-041509-generic_4.15.9-041509.201803111231_amd64.deb
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.15.9/linux-image-4.15.9-041509-generic_4.15.9-041509.201803111231_amd64.deb

For 32 bit systems

wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.15.9/linux-headers-4.15.9-041509_4.15.9-041509.201803111231_all.deb
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.15.9/linux-headers-4.15.9-041509-generic_4.15.9-041509.201803111231_i386.deb
wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.15.9/linux-image-4.15.9-041509-generic_4.15.9-041509.201803111231_i386.deb
Step 2: After successfully downloading install it
sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-4.15.9-* linux-image-4.15.9-* .deb
Step 3: Verify installed Version

After successful installation reboot the system, Your new kernel will be installed and set as default, for checking use uname command

uname -r

Removing Linux Kernel 4.15.9

For removing the Kernel 4.15.9 run the below command on the terminal or use the synaptic package manager
sudo apt-get remove linux-headers-4.15.9-* linux-image-4.15.9-*
