Install HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) 3.18.10 in Ubuntu / LinuxMint

HPLIP released a newer version having a support to new printers and released on 29th OCT 2018.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to install the latest version of HPLIP 3.18.10 On Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, LinuxMint and Debian.

HPLIP stands for HP Linux Imaging and Printing, which is developed by HP for using HP Printer in Linux Platforms, Hp by using this software anyone can take Printout, scanning, and copier using HP Laserjet and HP Inkjet Printers.

HPLIP supports more than 2000 Printer models including all business model, inkjet, laser and etc.. , you can also check the list of supported devices in here.

The Latest Version of HPLIP is 3.18.10 released recently and comes with the following support to the new printers.

  • HP Designjet T1708 PostScript
  • HP DesignJet T1708dr PostScript
Other Requirements
  • Phase 1 Scan features (supported in 3.18.9) qualification on below Scanjet devices:
  • Scanjet Pro 3500f1
  • Scanjet Pro 4500fn1
  • Scanjet Pro 3000s3
  • Scanjet Ent flow 7000s3
  • Digital Sender Flow 8500 fn2
  • Scanjet Ent. Flow N9120 fn2

Installation Steps

Step 1: Download the installer file

Download installer file from the Sourceforge website or use the below command

Step 2: Change the name of the downloaded file to hplip and give Execute Permissions to the Installer.
sudo chmod -R 755
Step 3: Install HPLIP 3.18.10
sudo ./
Once Installation process started it'll install all those dependencies and drivers you need to Press yes or no according to your needs.
