Install / Uninstall NVIDIA Driver 418.43 On Ubuntu 16.04 / 18.04

This tutorial will help you to install the Latest stable version of NVIDIA Graphics driver 418.43 On Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and LinuxMint.

Linux Display Driver is a proprietary, yet freely distributed OpenGL video driver that aims to offer support for Nvidia graphics cards on any Linux kernel-based operating system.

Nvidia Released new long lived graphics driver version 418.43 for Linux,FreeBSD and solaris servers with New GPU's with bux fixes and other improvements.

Installation steps

Step 1: Remove older version of NVIDIA if your graphic is supported
sudo apt-get purge nvidia*
Step 2: Reboot the system

Step 3: Download the Nvidia Driver 418.43
Step 4: Switch to command prompt and stop the running Graphics session

Press Ctrl+Alt+F1-F6 for switching to command prompt
sudo service lightdm stop
sudo service gdm stop
Step 4: Give execute permissions to the installer
sudo chmod 755
Step 5: Install the Nvidia 418.43 driver
sudo ./ --dkms
After successful installation reboot the system.

Verify the Installation

After installation run the below command will report all your CUDA-capable devices

Uninstallation of Nvidia driver 418.43

For uninstall run the below command
sudo --uninstall

Common Errors and Solutions

ERROR: Unable to load the 'nvidia-drm' kernel module.
If you receive the above error, then your system is set to boot from UEFI but  secure boot is turned ON in BIOS setting, Turn it OFF to resolve this issue.
