Install HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) 3.19.10 in Ubuntu / LinuxMint

In this tutorial, I will show you how to install the latest version of HPLIP 3.19.10 On Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, LinuxMint and Debian.

HPLIP
stands for HP Linux Imaging and Printing, which is developed by HP for using HP Printer in Linux Platforms, Hp by using this software anyone can take Printout, scanning, and copier using HP Laserjet and HP Inkjet Printers.


HPLIP supports more than 2000 Printer models including all business model, inkjet, laser and etc.. , you can also check the list of supported devices in here

HPLIP released a newer version having support to a lot of printers and released on 30th OCT 2019

The Latest Version of HPLIP is 3.19.10 released recently and comes with the following support to the new printers

Added New Printers
  • HP Color LaserJet MFP M776dn
  • HP Color LaserJet Flow MFP M776z
  • HP Color LaserJet Flow MFP M776zs
  • HP Color LaserJet M856dn
  • HP Color LaserJet M856x
  • HP Color LaserJet E85055dn
  • Added Supported for “hp-uiscan” to scan only backside of a page.
Added support
  • Manjaro 18.1.0(64-bit)
  • Ubuntu 19.10(64-bit)
  • Fedora 31(64-bit)
Known Issues
  • Scan Auto Orient feature supported in “hp-uiscan” fails for files having images and less text content.


Installation Steps

Step 1: Download the installer file

Download installer file from the Sourceforge website or use the below command
wget https://nchc.dl.sourceforge.net/project/hplip/hplip/3.19.10/hplip-3.19.10.run
Step 2: Change the name of the downloaded file to hplip 3.19.10.run and give Execute Permissions to the Installer
sudo chmod -R 755 hplip-3.19.10.run
Step 3: Install HPLIP 3.19.10
sudo ./hplip-3.19.10.run
Once the Installation process started it'll install all those dependencies and drivers you need to Press yes or no according to your needs.
